From Rev. Libby Janes, Director of the Synod Partnership for Disaster Recovery:
Be very cautious this week on roadways due to flash flooding. Some flash flood alerts have been happening over the past couple of days, and more flash flooding is expected this week. Please see the map above from the National Weather Service with rainfall projections.
Here's a Texas Department of Transportation state resource that tracks road closures: https://drivetexas.org/?ll=-97.6200,30.4017&z=9
Flood Safety Tips:
Turn Around, Don’t Drown®
Never drive through flooded roadways.
Stay out of floodwaters; they may contain debris, contaminants, and hidden hazards.
Avoid downed power lines and report them immediately.
Keep phones charged and maintain multiple ways to receive weather warnings.
Please let me know if any additional support is needed or if your church or members do experience flood-related damage. I know these warnings are especially difficult as we remember the anniversaries of the 13 people who died in flash floods in San Antonio on June 12th 2025, and the July 4th 2025 floodings, when 139+ people around Central Texas died. This week's weather alerts are critically important to save lives, but I also know they can remind us of painful memories from last year, and feel retraumatizing. I'm holding this week's caution and the ongoing long-term recovery efforts in prayer, and I'm here to support you if you need a colleague to listen.
