FEMA has opened a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) for citizens affected by Hurricane Ike in the Bexar County area. The DRC is located at the old “Big Lots” Store, 5455 Evers Road, San Antonio, TX 78238, (Evers & Loop 410). The DRC will be open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily, Monday through Sunday until further notice. Visit Mission Presbytery - PDA BlogSpot for more information

In addition to this excellent summary of the Tuesday morning meeting by Rick Carus at Grace Presbytery (go to Mission Presbytery - PDA BlogSpot), in Mission Presbytery two additional PDA folks will be coming to assist in the coordination of resources, people and things, to meet needs of evacuees still coming to San Antonio and the movement of resources from the San Antonio staging area to the disaster zone. The housing of evacuees has shifted from short term to long term (month or more??) hospitality. This had stretched the first responders’ resources and thus our calls for volunteers to assist at the sites here in San Antonio.

While we are still in the early days of long term recovery from Hurricane Dolly, our attention and the need for physical and financial support now needs to spread out along most of the Gulf Coast, and into the hard hit areas inland when Ike blew northward.

It will be some days before the full picture of “Ike’s” damage and destruction is known. While waiting for additional ways to help our displaced neighbors keep all of them and those doing search and rescue, setting up points of food and water distribution, doing power restoration, sustaining shelter operations and “even” mosquito control operations in your prayers. Thank you for all that you have done already.
